Update from week 1 - 9/7/26

Week 1 post surgery at home is in the books!

It was a good week, dad has been a good patient. He's listening to his body (and apparently showing it off every chance he gets) not over doing it and resting when he needs it.

Dad had some lovely phone and in person visits this week, keep up the good work friends!!

Amy and Glenn arrived on Thursday. On Friday morning they took dad to his Coffee Club group, where dad proudly showed off his new "zipper"...in the middle of the restaurant!

After a much too short (in dad's opinion) visit there, they headed off to meet with his cardiologist. That meeting went well. Dad can now use his arms to help himself get up. The doctor was very pleased with how well he is doing. The next step is setting up cardiac rehab appointments 3 days a week where they will address diet, stress and exercise. These will either be in person or on zoom, depending what works for dad's schedule and ride availability. He may get to ride the transport that he and mom used to drive! Hmmm, wonder if he'll get an employee discount! 😂

After the doctor they headed over to visit with mom. She was very happy to see them and they were happy to see her. They had a very nice visit while she ate her lunch.

On Saturday Toby and Marion did another dump run. Amy, dad, and Auntie Jeanne set up a craft booth at Northwoods Daycare. They had a pleasant day for sitting outside, until the rain hit later in the afternoon. Not a ton of sales, but enough that they may be going out to dinner tonight!

Sunday morning they all went to church, Zeke and Myra joined them there. Sunday evening they all went over to Isaiah's for dinner where he got to visit with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As you can imagine, he was in hog-heaven!

Today, while Marion and Glenn are at the Woodstock Fair, dad is helping Amy finish up a sewing project (no, he is not sewing, Amy is, dad is just helping...he is still on restricted sewing activity). They are also working on a crossword puzzle book I sent, I've been told "easy crossword puzzles" is not a very accurate name for the book! 😂

Marion's last day with dad is tomorrow, she will be spending the night at Zeke's since she has a VERY early flight (I feel for you Marion, that is the time I have had to get there the last few times I've been home 😴).

Amy is there until Wednesday afternoon. She will take dad to his doctor's appointment Wednesday morning, and then be on the telehealth call with dad in the afternoon before heading home.

Auntie Jeanne will be coming to stay with dad on Wednesday and stay with him for the next month or so. Someone's gotta make sure he behaves and who better to do it than his big sister! Neither one of them are driving at the moment so feel free to stop by and visit.

Also, dad is making a list of friends who said they'd be willing to pick up groceries and/or prescriptions for him while he is unable to. If you would like to be put on that list please let one of us know and we will make sure you get added to his list. If you know what days/evenings work best for you, let us know that as well.

Just a reminder, dad loves getting phone calls too, but may not always get to his phone in time (he does not have the hearing aids with Bluetooth any more). If you leave a message, he is pretty good about calling back fairly quickly.

That is all the news we have for now. Enjoy the rest of your Labor day!

Becky
